The President of the United States Federally declared 18 Texas counties as a disaster area (TX-00487, signed on August 25th, 2017). FEMA assistance comes in the form of grants, which do not need to be paid back. The SBA (Small Business Administration) has coordinated with FEMA affordable disaster low-interest loans to those affected by Hurricane Harvey. Funds are available for those with business, property and personal loses. SBA FAQ for Disaster Relief Loans
  • U.S. Department of TreasuryIf you have damaged or lost property in an area declared as Federal Disaster (see file), you may be able to get money back form the IRS RIGHT NOW, in one of two ways: 
    • On your return in the year of the disaster event, or 
    • File an amended return to deduct the lost in the year prior to the disaster (Form 4684)
  • IRSHurricane Harvey victims in parts of Texas have until Jan. 31, 2018 to file certain individual and business tax returns and make certain tax payments (previous deadline was for Sept. 15).
